The Cohda Mobile, Outdoor Signal Pre-Processor for IEEE 802.11 (Genie) is a simple, low cost device that uses an advanced receiver architecture and digital signal processing algorithms to transform outdoor, mobile channels into benign indoor, stationary channels. The addition of Genie to an outdoor IEEE 802.11 access point or vehicular modem will dramatically extend its range, mobility and multipath tolerance. The Genie device is simply placed between the system antenna(s) and the RF port of an 802.11 compliant radio.
Genie is an RF Input/Output physical layer pre-processor of the received signal. It is placed in the receive signal path between the antennas and a Commercial Of The Shelf (COTS) radio. Genie delivers significant improvements with just a single antenna, but can be used with two antennas for even more dramatic improvements. The transmit path of the radio remains unmodified when Genie is used. The pre-processing latency of Genie is such that an IEEE 802.11 radio incorporating Genie remains 100% IEEE 802.11 compliant.
